Studio

My home studio is filled with glass, supplies, tools, and laughter. It’s where you can attend classes & workshops, host parties, and do your own thing at Open Studio. Along with special cutters and work areas, you’ll find equipment for cutting, drilling, signing, and grinding your glass art.
Used most often in the studio is glass with a coefficient rating of 96. It is not to be mixed with other COEs. Please let me know if you have glass with a different COE or unrated glass. Adhesives and cleaners specific to fusing are also available. The scoring tools in the studio are made by Toyo and are “pistol grip” making cutting a snap.
I have four different kilns in my studio, each with a very specific job:
• My first and smallest kiln is used to make vitrigraph – squiggly hair-like strands of glass. A hot glass technique, I cut up small glass chips, place inside a terracotta pot with a hole, place the pot in an elevated kiln, heat the glass to around 1850 degrees, and catch the liquid glass on a cookie sheet as it drains through the hole. The results are varying sizes and lengths of dazzling glass hair to be used as funky elements in your work.
• an 8×8” kiln that is perfect for small work and test fires
• a kiln that is 23” round x 13” deep
• a (size) bathtub-sized kiln that is great for large art pieces
Every piece is unique, just like you! The possibilities for the kiln artist are endless and I welcome you to visit my studio and take a class, host a party, or attend one of my Open Studio sessions. You’ll learn about the different types of glass, tools, how to cut & break, molds, slumping, some simple kiln facts, and you’ll make friends along the way!
